And I remember people complaining about Pac-Man...
On that black hole of a website Tv Tropes I found an entry detailing some of the fun and lighthearted sadistic things you can do to meaningless NPCs in the new games.

Check out the stuff they list for the Star Wars-based Knights of the Old Republic. Their version of the path of the Dark Side makes Anakin's massacre of the Jedi younglings look downright loving.

That's mostly exaggeration -- but I still remember people grousing about the 'graphic violence' back when home computers games were about as advanced as Pac-Man.

Too true! I'm old enough to remember people complaining about the violence and 'vulgarity' of the Three Stooges. Hmm, I wonder what they think of the stuff running on TV now?
